About Brie


I am originally from Seattle, WA. I moved to Vancouver in 2002 to attend UBC. In 2006, after many battles with depression and anxiety, I suffered a severe emotional breakdown. I took a break from school and completed an intense Dialectical Behavioural Therapy program with the Evidence Based Treatment Center in Seattle. The skills I learned in that program took me from complete emotional collapse to self-aware functioning. I literally owe the program my life, as it saved me from paralyzing anxiety and emotional dissonance.

I have been a writer my whole life, and I studied European Literature and History with the intention to travel and write after graduation. Alas, the combination of family illness, my mental health struggles, meeting my future husband, and adopting our dog in 2007 changed that plan. Other than a brief sojourn to Montreal in 2011, we have lived in Vancouver near family and friends.

I became a mom in 2013 to Breccan, and welcomed Olin in 2016. Despite my past, I’ve managed to navigate early motherhood without too much relapse. Motherhood shakes everyone to their core, and I found myself relying on those DBT skills once again. The longer I am a mother, the more I gain confidence in those skills, and the more I wish to share them with other mothers. Happy Go Mama is my place to share my skills and my successes, and a place I hope you will share yours as well!
